# Troubleshooting

## Troubleshooting

### The plugin does not enable

Confirm that the server uses Paper 26.1.2, Java 25 and PacketEvents 2.13.0. PacketEvents is a required dependency.

### The bundled catalog is missing

Run `/cmg status`, inspect startup errors and use `/cmg reload`. A damaged empty catalog is restored from the bundled defaults when possible.

### CurseForge is unavailable

Set a raw `CLIENTMODGATE_CURSEFORGE_API_KEY` environment variable and restart Paper. Do not place password hashes or placeholder values in the configuration.

### A marketplace mod cannot be converted

The selected archive did not expose dependable information for a safe rule. ClientModGate intentionally refuses the conversion.

### The loader is shown as Unknown

Loader classification is best-effort. Proxies, translators and modified clients can omit or alter the visible information.

### A legitimate player was blocked

1. Open the complete player report.
2. Review the matched rule and confidence.
3. Set the rule to `MONITOR`.
4. Clear the player's sanction.
5. Review the startup log and audit entry before re-enabling blocking.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://clientmodgate.gitbook.io/clientmodgate/reference/troubleshooting.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
